Organizer Quickstart Guide

Welcome to the MakerDAO Quick Start Guide for Hackathon Organizers. Below you will find all the information you need to know before reaching out to us.

Please Note: Community Development is not accepting new sponsorships as we work through a larger than normal backlog of proposals, in addition to precautions for COVID-19. Sponsorship applications will re-open on July 1, 2020.

Hackathon Funding Requirements

Please reach out to us no later than 4 weeks before the event.

At the moment, priority will be given to hackathons with the following:

  1. Very conservative sponsorship requirements (under $5,000)
  2. Located or targeted at Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (SEEMEA)
  3. Direct connection to talent and hackathon attendees (chat, forum, github, etc)
  4. Themes focused on governance, risk management, stability and derivatives, privacy tooling. Current hackathon challenge themes can be found under the "Hackathons" label in the Community-Development Github.

Required Information

If you would like to have MakerDAO sponsor your hackathon, please have a look at the following checklist and make sure this information is included when you reach out to us at hackathons@makerdao.com.

  1. Basics

    • The name of the event
    • The location of the event
    • The date of the event
    • The number of expected participants
    • Links to event details specific to the hackathon

  2. Details on the event

    • The theme of the event, if any
    • The amount for the prize pool
    • Number of challenges/tracks
    • Information about the challenges/tracks
    • How the prizes will be distributed
    • Number of judges, and their names
    • Whether or not the winners will be promoted on social media
    • Where the details of the bounty will be hosted (bounties.network, gitcoin, etc.)
    • Where participants will be posting information about their hacks (eg. Devpost)
    • Information about where we can find media coverage or summaries of the event and the projects after the event is over

  3. Sponsor-specific Information

    • Details about sponsorship packages and amounts
    • A breakdown of what our sponsorship covers
    • Whether or not you will be able to provide us with contact information of hackathon participants
    • Whether or not you require us to be physically present for the hackathon
    • Whether or not you require us to join as speakers, judges, or mentors
    • Whether or not a sponsor table will be available for us if we are physically present
